Dating While Pregnant

Dating can be hard at times and dating during pregnancy is no exception. There are no rules to say you shouldn’t date while pregnant, it is a personal choice. Some see it as being no different to dating when you have children, while others feel it is wrong to get intimate with someone while carrying someone else’s baby. The most important thing to remember is always be honest about your pregnancy when dating someone new. Being open about your pregnancy could potentially be a turn off for some men, but others find it an attractive feature.

Deciding who to date and finding a date can be difficult anyway, but while pregnant you need to think about your baby as well as yourself. You may be attracted to the type of man who is great date material, but they may not be the type of person you would want around your new baby. Remember that it isn’t just you that this decision effects, it’s your unborn baby too. It is a good idea to outline the qualities that you are looking for in a man before you start to date. You must also decide if you are actually looking for someone who will be there for you after the baby is born. If you wish them to play a part in your baby’s life then you need to be confident in the person you find. Don’t compromise for someone who you know will be there for you and the baby, you need to make sure you have a connection with them too.

Once you have found a date, make sure that you are open about your pregnancy from the start. It is easy to hide pregnancy in the beginning, but after the first trimester it will become harder. Don’t be afraid to tell your date that you are pregnant; it is nothing to be embarrassed about. The news may be a shock to them, especially if you are in the first trimester, but telling them from the very start is a good way to find out if they are suitable for you or not. If every time you mention your baby, your date changes the subject and refuses to talk about it, then this is an obvious sign that they are not interested at all about your baby, and this type of partner is best avoided. If they are judgemental towards you, then they are definitely not worth wasting your time over. The news may initially scare some men off, but others will not even consider it an issue. Telling them simply identifies the suitable partners from the unsuitable partners.

If your date is perfect for you and is supportive about the pregnancy, it is important that you talk to him about the future. Find out his intentions for when the baby arrives, otherwise you could end up getting hurt. You need to be certain that he is there to stay and support you. Starting the relationship with honesty is the best way to have a successful relationship not only between you and your partner, but between you, your partner and your new baby.
